if you work with raw scans of jump like us (unleveled grayish scans) burn & dodge works for correcting tones.

It looks nice, the only problem I can see is the fact you put black on darker tones or part with lines really closed from each others.
can I see the raw page you used?

try to clean this page:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/5fmg1l

This is the kind of page you will have to deal with if you join us. this one doesn't have much tones but is lacking a lot of ink. If you can clean that properly in a decent time (try to look at how much time you'll spend on this) you'll probably be skilled enough to help us (I hope you will... Lips sealed )

Note that at that size you can see even the little details and once you're used to it, you can spot the darker tones too. this is why I wrote that comment above, some details weren't really visible on the raw you used.

Ah...I give up...I give up...it's really hard to clean from that page, I can only manage to this far http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/6528/05xf7.png. As you can see it's still not finished, there's still many that not whited (and I already doesn't have the mood to finish it Tongue).
The Branch Chief and Aika's hair is the big obstacle for me Undecided (! I even need to redraw it, but the raw is to white and not visible, because of that I just do it randomly  Tongue.

...right know I don't know anymore where the tones, white or the black is...
...my eyes is hurts.... Grin

If I use the raw from the download archive, maybe I clean it more nicely. But oh well, maybe it's better to wait for your release, I will wait for it patiently... Grin See ya

you know, I think you didn't try the good way to clean it, that's probably why it got so hard, besides not all the pages are lacking that much ink.

It's not hard, it's just that it makes me confused. I just wondered how you clean that page (I even can see the tones on aika's hair on panel 5 in the raw at download archive, but when I clean it myself I don't see the tones and it's what make me confused). For the rest, I can do it easily but need more time.

In a case like this, you have a few possibilities:
1. fill all the black on the raw before doing anything else, and then resize/level (this takes an huge amount of time but you can end up with tankoubon quality if you do it well!!)
2. level first, redraw the parts lacking ink and then resize to clean the rest of the page
3. resize, level, and clean the best you can (this last option gives the lower quality because a lot of details disappear after resizing so reconstructing the parts lacking inks can become tough)

there may be more, but I can't think of another one... I personnaly go with 2. (but I'm using a tablet, for those who don't have one, redrawing lines can quickly become a nightmare...)

Also note that if you feel like to help us but want to use public scans, it's fine if that can make you're job easier (but some pages on public scans are lacking ink the same way than our scans...)

a lot can still be done to that one to improve it, I recommend you to avoid any blurring.

hmm, does the image appear blurred? I never added any effects, I only have 1 filter on which only darkened the image. Everything else is black and white mark-ups, do you mind telling me what I could and shouldnt do to make it better?
