 I know the processes for fansubbing

and am curious what the processes of scanlation are (no particular reason other than curiosity Tongue )

Cleaning-> Translation -> Translation Checking -> Proofreading -> Editing & Typesetting -> Quality check -> Release

for us it's more:
typesetting & translation > tl checking > Quality check
and the text is paste on cleaned pages once they are done.

can any of those things be done without knowing any japanese or having very little experience with photoshop.
 also how long does it take to do each one (I'm only asking cos I saw the ossu needs help thread and want to see if there's anthing I can do)

translation between 1 day to 3 hours (depends on the content, action pages takes about a minute, when explicative pages take about 30 minutes), and translation checking about 2 to 3 hours, proofing not sure maybe 1 hour, cleaning about 2 to 3 hours per page and typesetting I have no idea, but remember all this depends on the mood of the person doing each step, for example if I'm extremely bored but with an adrenaline rush I can do 3 Translation checks on a day, otherwise 1 a day or 1/2 a day =P, I'm lazy ^_^

hopefully we don't spend 2-3hours per pages on cleaning ^^;
just 1 hour is a lot, maybe the worst pages with lacking ink and redrawing to do would ask that much time, but I think a normal page is done in something like 45min.
